The Pacific Baroque Festival focuses on the period performance of baroque music. It is located in Victoria, BC, Canada, and is presented by the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
Inspired by the Festival’s Artistic Director, Marc Destrubé, the Festival has grown to five events in which the audience can appreciate a range of music based on the Festival’s theme:
2013: Welcome to All the Pleasures: The Music of Henry Purcell
2012: Music for the Sun King
2011: Stylus Fantasticus: Music for Bishops & Emperors
2010: Bach, Buxtehude & Telemann
2009: Handel in London
2008: Vivaldi’s Venice
2007: Masters of the English Baroque: Handel, Purcell, Avison, Geminiani, Corbett and others
2006: Bach, Boccherini & Beyond
2005: An Evening of Pacific Baroque
The Festival’s core ensemble is the Pacific Baroque Festival of Vancouver and features international as well as local musicians. It also provides a platform for young musicians studying in Victoria to perform with professional musicians. In the past three years, and again in 2011, the Victoria Children’s Choir, under the direction of Madeleine Humer, has performed at least one major work giving these young musicians exposure to the period performance of baroque music.
The Festival is dedicated to:
- providing excellence in period performance
- to exposing expanding Victoria audiences to period performance of baroque music
- to attracting visitors to visit Victoria and the Pacific Baroque Festival in the month of February.
The Pacific Baroque Festival is grateful for the tremendous support it has received from sponsors, donors, musicians and its audience.
